Of course, knives with folding blades are not the only type of small hunting knives available on the market. There are many experienced hunters who prefer to carry along one or more fixed blade hunting knives in their hunting gear. These fixed blade knives are larger and also require a sheath to be carried along as well. Many hunters feel that fixed blades are more stable and this is why they use them.

Probably the biggest disadvantage of folding knives, when compared to their fixed blade counterparts, is the fact that fixed blades are much easier to get completely and thoroughly clean. With the grooves in the handle and the folding mechanism comes some difficulty in being able to completely remove tissue, blood and other debris. While this is a viable consideration, many people still lean toward carrying these small hunting knives with them because they are so convenient.
